About the Parent Leadership Team
The “Parent Leadership Team” (or PLT) is the group of volunteer parents who perform administrative tasks on club volleyball teams.
This series outlines the best practices for PLTs to operate effectively in creating the best possible experience for the team.
Officiating Coordinator Role
The Officiating Coordinator allocates parents to the scoring and line judging roles at tournaments. Performing this function prior to the tournament start reduces stress and allows parents to prepare effectively for their role.
Procedures
How to Create the Minor Officials Schedule for a Tournament
- Determine from the tournament draw (ex. Google Sheet) if teams are required to provide a scorer and line judge for matches at this tournament.
- If yes, view the tournament draw and record the team’s match time on the Minor Officials Schedule.
- In the parent communication channel (ex. WhatsApp, TeamLinkt, TeamSnap, etc.), determine which parents are attending the tournament and are comfortable in the scoring and line judging roles. Note that you may need to be assertive since parents are often reluctant to fill these roles.
- Assign a parent to the scorer and line judge roles for each match.
- Forward the Minor Officials Schedule to the parents communication channel.
